78th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising

honoring the memory of fallen heroes in the fight for freedom

The celebrations of the 78th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising in Bystričany were traditionally in the spirit of remembering the men and women who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. On the way to neighboring Kamenec Pod Vtáčnik, the participants of the ascent to Vtáčnik with members of our Bystričany Volunteer Fire Brigade laid wreaths on the graves of fallen partisans and soldiers of the Soviet Army in the grounds of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Bystričany and the local cemetery in Vieska. For lunch, everyone met at the top of our highest hill, from where they moved together to the elementary school campus.
The deputy mayor Jozef Rybár and his deputy colleague Juraj Barto subsequently awarded the oldest and youngest participant of the ascent to the Vtáčnik mountain range. The evening was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the bonfire, which we dedicated to the heroes of the SNP. As mayor Filip Lukáč emphasized in his speech, we should not forget our history or distort our history. On the contrary, we should be sincerely grateful that, unlike millions of people - even directly beyond our borders - we live in a peace that is not taken for granted. Thank you and let's not forget.
